This is truly the best restaurant in Richmond. I’ve been to every nook and cranny in this lovely city, and Native Plate is THE place I constantly return to. Their menu is honed to precise perfection, you’re lucky if you come during an off time where it’s not overly crowded, The service is casual and amazing, you feel right at home without having to be pretentious. Loved this spot! Great atmosphere and fantastic food with unique flavors. We had a peanut allergy and a vegetarian diet to accommodate and they were able to do so easily and had several menu items that were friendly to their diet needs. Only thing that was unfortunate was that parking wasn’t clear and where I did park, I got a ticket, so be mindful!

Stepping into Native Plate, you're met with a genuinely warm vibe, the kind that makes you feel instantly at ease. And the food? Well, let's just say it lives up to the welcoming atmosphere. On a recent visit, I had the pleasure of trying their Schuzean Chicken and the Salmon Teriyaki, and here's the lowdown: The Schuzean Chicken is a delightful surprise. The name itself hints at a bit of mystery, and the dish delivers on that intrigue. The chicken was cooked beautifully – tender and juicy on the inside with a lovely crispness to the skin. But the real star here is the "Schuzean" element. It's not just a sauce; it's an experience. There's a subtle sweetness that dances with a gentle, building heat. It's complex and layered, leaving you wanting another bite to unravel its secrets. It's not overwhelmingly spicy, but it definitely has a pleasant kick that awakens the palate. The accompanying sides were thoughtfully chosen, complementing the richness of the chicken without overpowering it. This dish feels both comforting and exciting – a real standout. Then there's the Salmon Teriyaki. Now, teriyaki can often be predictable, but Native Plate's rendition offers a refreshing take. The salmon itself was clearly high-quality, with a lovely, flaky texture and a richness that spoke to its freshness. The teriyaki glaze was the perfect balance of sweet and savory, avoiding the cloying sweetness that can sometimes plague this dish. It coated the salmon beautifully, creating a glossy, appealing finish. What impressed me most was the restraint – the sauce enhanced the natural flavor of the salmon rather than masking it. Served with perfectly cooked rice and vibrant vegetables, this was a well-executed classic that felt both satisfying and nourishing. Overall: Native Plate has clearly put thought and care into crafting their menu. Both the Schuzean Chicken and the Salmon Teriyaki showcase a commitment to quality ingredients and thoughtful flavor combinations. The Schuzean Chicken offers a unique and exciting culinary adventure, while the Salmon Teriyaki provides a comforting and elevated take on a familiar favorite.

I had dinner here with my family and a colleague. I loved the atmosphere and the decoration. The service was great. The portions are very large. I'm not impressed with the Pho. Other than that, we had a great time on a Saturday night.

Incredibly nice people working here, very accommodating and polite. The food looked a little plain but was really flavorful and delicious. Recommended The spicy edamame and the laksa curry. The drinks are really creative and fun, too.

Tried out Native Plate in Richmond Downtown today and was honestly impressed. I had the Nasi Goreng – Indonesian fried rice – and it was packed with flavor, had just the right kick of spice. Also grabbed a few appetizers (Rice paper rolls, vegetarian Gyoza), and everything tasted super fresh. The vibe of the place is really cozy and warm. Great spot to chill with friends or even just grab a quiet bite solo.

This is a great place to grab lunch downtown. Not a lot of seating and it gets crowded quickly. And for good reason. Brought my team here a few times now. Consistent, friendly servers and really good food.

Hands down, my favorite restaurant in RVA now. My husband and I went here on a rainy Friday night, no expectations and the food totally blew us both away! I’ve heard they are typically pretty busy & packed here but I guess we got lucky ...
